Ministry of Economy and Emirates Post sign MoU on economic activities

The Ministry of Economy and Emirates Post Group have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on economic activities related to the mailing system to further enhance cooperation in various areas of common interest. The parties aim to enhance coordination and communication to achieve their respective strategic objectives in line with nationwide efforts to advance economic and social growth.

The MoU was signed by Eng. Mohammed Ahmed Bin Abdulaziz Al-Shehhi, the Ministry's Undersecretary for Economic Affairs, and Mr. Abdulla Mohammed Alashram, Acting CEO of Emirates Post Group.

As per the agreement, the two sides will unify economic activities associated with the mail system according to the approved International Classification. They will also establish more effective communication channels to facilitate joint actions and strengthen coordination with regards to adding, modifying or deleting economic activities related to the mail system. They will exchange experiences and knowledge within the framework of their respective mandates as well.

The Undersecretary added that as part of efforts to lay the foundation for a competitive, diverse, sustainable, innovative and knowledge-based economy, the Ministry is working towards further developing the local business climate and continuously updating the system of economic activities. The Ministry aims to standardize the ratings of such activities in line with ISIC Rev.4 (International Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities, Rev.4) issued by the United Nations.

On his part, Alashram commended the MoU's aim of enhancing cooperation between the Ministry of Economy and Emirates Post Group, particularly in unifying economic activities associated with the postal system and enhancing cooperative mechanisms between the parties at the federal and local levels.

He added that Emirates Post Group seeks to enhance its partnerships with strategic partners in support of the directives of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, promoting happiness of customers.

Other Ministry representatives present during the signing ceremony were H.E. Humaid Bin Butti Al Muhairi, Assistant Undersecretary for Commercial Affairs and Consumer Protection; H.E. Yousef Issa Al-Rifai, Assistant Undersecretary for the Support Services Sector; and Marwan Sabousi, Director of the Undersecretary's Office of Economic Affairs.

The Emirates Post Group delegation also comprised Sultan Al Midfa, Chief of Postal Operations Affairs; Obaid Al Qatami, Acting Chief Commercial Officer; Omar bin Bayat Al-Falasi, Acting Executive Director of Legal Affairs Department; and Licensing Department Director Noura Al Suwaidi.
