Emirates Post Group hosts "Reading Week"

Emirates Post Group hosted a series of events during "Reading Week" held under the slogan "Posts read and write", in association with Culture and Arts Authority, Public Libraries Department and Emirates Association of Calligraphy and Islamic Ornamentation, in line with the '2016 Year of Reading' initiative launched by the President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The events consisted of many cultural events and science competitions, in addition to fun activities related to reading, workshop on 'We read for our future and assure our happiness' and the 'Reading Oasis' initiative in cooperation Culture and Arts Authority and Department of Public Libraries which provided books, competitions and prizes, in addition to the 'smart chair' initiative, and Arabic calligraphy and Islamic ornamentation demonstrations by Emirates Calligraphy Association.

There was also 'Convoy of Happiness in reading' held in cooperation with the UAE "Takatif Foundation" whose volunteers visited all major post offices to encourage children to donate their books and toys. Rewaq Ousha Bint Hussein company participated in "Let us read" initiative through events based on the slogan "Post reads and writes." There were huge boards on which each child wrote about the beautiful book he/she had read. The event also collected books that would be sent to libraries in poor countries, with the participation of 1100 employees who donated their books.

Acting CEO of Emirates Post Group, Mr. Abdullah Alashram highlighted the importance of the initiative launched by the President to encourage participation of society in encouraging the habit of reading among children and adults. He said the Reading Week successfully engaged employees and children in many activities revolving around the theme of reading, in addition to lectures and workshops aimed at encouraging community members to read.

Alashram expressed his thanks to all the agencies and institutions involved in the "Post reads and writes" initiative, as reading is the first pillar in the process of education and development of the community.
