Arab Regional Conference on Istanbul World Postal Strategy opens in Dubai

A two-day "Arab Regional Conference on Istanbul World Postal Strategy" opened on September 7 at Hotel Marriott Jaddaf in Dubai. The conference, hosted by the Emirates Post Group EPG), was attended by a number of experts and senior officials from the postal organizations of the GCC states and Arab states, as well as representatives of the Universal Postal Union (UPU).

In his opening speech, Mr. Fahad Al Hosani, Acting CEO of EPG, while stressing the importance of the conference in providing a roadmap for Arab posts, highlighted EPG's strategy to cope with the rapid changes witnessed in postal field by working hard to accelerate the implementation of the Doha Strategy. He said the use of advanced IT solutions had enabled EPG to launch a number of integrated services accessible to customers through smartphones, which represents the first step towards migration to e-commerce. EPG is now poised to launch a series of e-commerce offerings, including consumer products and electronic devices through the website, as part of the e-commerce project, he added.

Abdullah Al Ashram, CEO of Emirates Post, spoke about the innovation and expansion of EPG's postal and non-postal services, based on an elaborate strategy that is driven by modernization and advanced technology. He said Emirates Post is completely in harmony with the goals set by UPU and added that under a new strategy Emirates Post would enter new areas, including e-commerce and financial services within a short time.

The conference provides an opportunity for exchange of experiences and information with specialists in the postal field, and a window for highlighting the qualitative leap witnessed by the world in the field of postal work, especially in the field of e-commerce, an area of special interest to Arab posts.

The conference focused on several topics, including: planning for the future, sharing insights in evaluating the implementation of the Doha Postal Strategy (DPS), identifying the needs of the Arab region in the framework of the Istanbul World Postal Strategy, development business plans for 2017-2020 phases, providing working Postal industry leaders with the basic marks to understand the dimensions of economic issues facing the postal sector today, how to comprehend these issues and employ the leaders' growing role in achieving communication and boosting trade as well as social and economic development.
